Unboxing Ourselves: The Joy of Curiosity
Have you ever wondered if systems like Human Design or Astrology truly serve us? Picture this: I walk into a room and introduce myself as a triple Leo. What pops into your mind? Confidence? Leadership? Maybe even a touch of drama? Now, imagine I also reveal that my Human Design type is a Projector 2/4. Does that change your perception? Are you already constructing a mental image of who I am?
It’s fascinating how often people inquire about my star sign or my Human Design type, only to swiftly categorize me based on these systems. While there’s value in understanding ourselves through such lenses—like feeling more confident because I resonate with the traits of a Leo or stepping into leadership roles as people expect Leos to—I’ve found it limiting at times. For instance, despite being a Projector, I don't particularly enjoy coaching, which contradicts the typical expectations of my design.
These systems can offer insights, but they also risk stifling our curiosity. How often have you thought, "Oh, you’re a Scorpio, so you must be intense and secretive," or "You're a Manifestor, you must be independent and driven"? We end up boxing people in, just as we might with stereotypes based on nationality or heritage.
Interestingly, while I can see and acknowledge the conditioning from my German heritage and upbringing, being a Leo or a Projector is just one facet of who I am. I am so much more than these labels. We all are.
Imagine a world where we stay curious about who we are and who we can become, unfettered by any system. What if we extended that curiosity to others, refusing to limit them to predefined boxes? The next time you feel the urge to label someone, I invite you to pause and stay curious. Embrace your assumptions and ideas, but don’t let them define your perception of others.
Let’s celebrate the multifaceted nature of our identities. I am eager to hear your thoughts on this topic. How have systems like Astrology or Human Design influenced you? Have they helped or hindered your personal growth and understanding of others?
Warmly,
Silja
